The 5e DMG (pages 230-232) has some support for play beyond 20th level in 5th Edition, but I always loved the concept of concluding a character arc or campaign in a way that sets them up for being major NPCs in a future game.Īs a group, decide whether your characters will each seek their own destiny, or share the same destiny (for example, becoming a new pantheon of gods.) The DM creates an adventure called a Destiny Quest for each epic destiny that puts your character in the spotlight and brings their story to an end. One of the concepts of 4th Edition D&D is the epic destiny, which lets you advance your character beyond 20th level, unlock unique powers, achieve immortality, and retire your character in a blaze of glory.
